Instructional Design

Each client has individual needs, and each learning project is unique. Once there is a clear understanding of the learning needs that the new training will address, an appropriate instructional design can be developed. This design must take into account:

Depending on the scope and complexity of the learning project, the learning design process, and approvals, will typically take from 20% to 40% of the total learning project time and budget. As an example, the learning design and development of a half day training session might require as little as 15 hours, or as much as 35 hours to complete, depending on its complexity and the level of additional research required to develop the learning materials.

The design for a relatively simple half day training session might take 3 to 4 hours. At our standard $250 hourly rate, this represents $750 to $1,000 to establish an appropriate and pedagogically sound basis for the development of the learning. This investment in design ensures that learning outcomes are achieved and streamlines the development of the appropriate learning objects. Our professional advice: NEVER skimp on design!

This represents a total learning project budget for our sample training session from $3,750 to $8.750 or more. Note. This is the suggested budget for only the design and development of the learning experience. Plans for delivering the learning (e.g. "train the trainer" sessions and scheduled classes) are not part of this budgeting process, and may be planned as a separate "delivery project". Detailed estimates are developed for every learning project, and clients are informed at all times of project progress and deliverables achieved.
